DANIA HUSSAIN - HOW TO DECIDE FURNITURE LAYOUT FOR A HOUSE

I am Dania Hussain and in this post, I am sharing something about how to decide furniture layout for your house. Between all the advice, visuals and case studies, there are some gems of information to be discovered. Read on for my top tips for nailing your furniture layout, with links to our archives to expand on each one.

1. Function Over Form: Understanding and having the layout reflect how the area will be used is the most crucial element to consider when organizing any room.

2. Always Allow For Flow: For interior design enthusiasts, an empty space is the finest type of blank slate. Plan your traffic routes, keep in mind that less is more, and leave at least three feet between components.

3. Balance is Key: Balance is crucial in any place, whether you like symmetry in design or not. Combine two smaller pieces of furniture, perhaps a towering floor lamp with a hanging pendant, to visually balance a larger piece of furniture.

4. Create Zones: You can use your furniture arrangement to create pleasant "rooms" and designate regions for specific uses in an open-plan space.

5. Don’t be a Wallflower: Except in the tiniest of quarters (with the anticipation of dance parties), there's no need to push all your furniture up against the walls, as we've been saying for a long time.

6. Keep the Horizon Clear: It's critical to keep the eye lines across a room clear when trying to create a sense of spaciousness.
